Public Safety Police
In early 2015, we had double digit unsolved homicides in the city of Inkster. Fast forward to 2018, and we were being highlighted on the news for having a 24 percent decrease in violent crime. During that time, we created five new positions in the police department: community relations officer; evidence technician; an additional detective position; one animal control officer; four police service aides moving officers from behind the desk and putting them back on patrol in our neighborhoods; and an additional ordinance officer position. We also receive great service from our auxiliary police officers.
The police community relations unit has brought the citizens and our police department together like never before with events such as:
- National Night Out -- Over 1000 people attended last August and enjoyed free food, fun and games
- Movie Night at the PD --On Fridays throughout the summer residents get to enjoy a free movie outside courtesy of the police department
- Coffee with a Cop -- Bringing residents and police officers together at local restaurants to strategize together and address citizens concerns
- Shop with a Cop -- Adopting a number of families from our community to make sure their children have a Christmas.
Prior to me taking office in 2015, ALL of these things were unheard of.
