Byron Nolen Biography

Born and raised in the city of Inkster, Byron is proud to call Inkster home.  He is deeply rooted in his hometown, and is an active member of the community.   As a youth, Byron was involved with local sports and was a member of the Inkster chapter of the Top Teens of America community service organization.  His mother Opal Nolen, was a teacher in Inkster Public schools for more than 25 years, and Byron’s father Henry Nolen, retired from Ford Motor Company after 36 years.  Byron is currently involved with many local community based organizations:  Seeds 2 Feed Foundation, National Action Network Inkster Chapter, Western Wayne County NAACP, and he is the co-chair of the Inkster Task Force.

Byron is an attorney with over 27 years of experience in civil litigation and criminal defense.  From 2015 to 2019 Byron served as the mayor of Inkster.  Although law has been Byron’s bread and butter, becoming mayor of his hometown was the highlight of his professional career thus far. During his term as mayor, Byron worked tirelessly with residents and city council to bolster business and rejuvenate community spaces, parks, and public services. If elected mayor, Byron plans to continue this work with the help of the residents and business owners in Inkster. 

Byron is a graduate of Wayne Memorial High School, class of 1987.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1991 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit-Mercy in 1995. He is married and has a son in college.
